Gold Sovereign
The Gold Sovereigns of Great Britain are historically among the most trusted and desired gold coins in the world.Gold Queens
The British Gold Sovereign "Queens", displaying an image of the mature Queen Victoria who ruled England from 1883 to 1901, were minted from 1893 to 1901. These Queens are known as the "Old Head" variety and are the final of the three versions featuring Queen Victoria. As for their gold content, the Queens contain a bit less than one quarter (¼) ounce, 0.2304 ounces of gold to be precise.Gold Kings
Another type of British gold Sovereign that is good for investing is the variety known as "Kings". Three designs that come highly recommended are as follows.Edward VII
The gold Kings minted from 1902 through 1910 depict King Edward VII who reigned during that period, after the death of Queen Victoria. On the reverse of this coin is a depiction of St. George slaying the dragon. The coin's gold content is also a little under a quarter ounce at 0.2354 ounces.George V
-- From 1911 to 1935 the gold sovereign Kings display a portrait of King George V on the obverse, with the reverse showing the St. George and dragon scene. This coin has the same 0.2354 ounces gold content as the King Edward V's. Some of the scarcest gold Kings are those that were minted in Canada from 1911 - 1919. They are identified by the "C" mintmark on the reverse, just above the date.
-- The last gold sovereign that I'll mention is the 1918 King that was minted in India from August 1918 through April 1919. 1.295 million of these George V design sovereigns were minted and they are very rare today.
